This chapter covers the theory behind reduction of the cross-section.

Rectangular cross-section

bred = b - (δV + δH) a

hred = h - (δT + δB) a

Plate section and hollowcore

hred = h - (δT + δB) a

Circular cross-section

dred = d - 2a

T-type cross-section and F-type cross-section

hf,red = hf - (δT + δB) aflange

bf,red = bf - (δL + δR) aflange

As an approximation, bf increases/decreases according to the strength parameters between the flange and the body.

L-type cross-section

bred = b - (δL + δB) abody

hred = h - δabody - δB aflange

bf,red = bf - (δabody + δR aflange)

As an approximation, bf increases/decreases according to the strength parameters between the flange and the body.

For the entire cross-section the reduced parameters of the body are used.

fcdM) = kcM,body) fcd

EcdM) = kcM,body)2 EcdM)
