Sample section guide - Topping

Topping is added in a dialog similar to the cross-section window. Instead of regular concrete sections, various types of topping may be selected.

By clicking the Add, Change and Delete buttons, the user can create new topping types, and modify or delete ones already selected in the list.

Note that RBX, STT, and SIB elements cannot accept topping. Using the PRE-Stress handler lets the program automatically calculate dead load for the topping. Note that this loadcase is kept separate from the dead load of the main beam. While the program will automatically generate dead loads, adding the loadcases of main beam and topping requires user input. For deciding at which point in construction the cast occurs, see the chapter on concrete material settings.

Once the values of the topping section have been properly configured, finish the configuration by clicking either Change or Add to store the data.

By clicking the help button (symbolized by a double-arrow and question mark), the topping image can be toggled to display a representation of what the various topping measurements mean. Clicking it again will bring the section image back. The actual set values are retained throughout, allowing the user to consult the schematics on the fly while making adjustments.

Manage cross sections

By right-clicking on a topping section and selecting "Manage cross section..." / "Hantera tvärsnitt..." it is possible to add a note, warning or disable a topping. This can be good if an old topping geometry has been used in older files, but it should be kept in the list, even if a newer version is available.

There are three advanced settings:

  • Show information (information icon + message)
  • Show warning (warning icon + message)
  • Block the usage of this section

The message is shown above the preview. For blocked sections the [OK]-button is disabled, making it impossible to add the cross section to the project.
